CRAVING THE SUMMER

Its been a chilly January so far in Calgay and the dreams of beaches are happening more frequently than my bank account could handle. With no plans of a tropical vacation anytime soon I figure I will have to make due with pictures from the summer while I was home in the Maritimes. Crystal Crescent Beach is a goregous white sandy beach not too far away from Halifax and my sister, Dad and myself had a great time exploring the different inlets, minus the furthest nudist section!! Enjoy and try to picture warmer weather

MOTHER NATURE AND CHINOOKS

A few nights ago the latest and greatest Chinook rolled through town and the sky was turning an amazing shade of pink and blue with this nasty looking cloud so I ran out (with my new best friend Lensbaby Composer) my back door, hoping my neighbors wouldn't think I was stalking them.. again.. and took a few shots. Metering was tough but I think I captured(ish) the essence

BOKEH

I was playing around on Flickr and kept coming across this word Bokeh so finally my curiosity got the better of me and I googled it. According to Wikipedia bokeh is

"In photography, bokeh is the æsthetic quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image.Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting— "good" or "bad" bokeh, respectively.Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions."

I sort of thought bokeh was a Jewish star (it seems a lot of example pictures use this though) but now I realize its just that cool blur effect I never had a word for but really liked.

Here are a few of my pictures of bokeh. I think this generally happens unintentionally. I took these pictures one day on a walk behind my house, along the golf course.
